Home for about a week, taking a break from summer school and work, pretty soon It’ll be back at it again. I’m thinking I’ll spare the annual cultural observations on how Hawaii has changed since I last came for a visit, its more of the same, just amplified again. I also made the observation on the way out today that while some of Honolulu has changed quite a bit, other parts of it have not.

Went to San Souci beach briefly, was a little cautious about going into the water with the recent sewage spill, but figuring that the current was going away from the main break it was probably ok. Nice to see the salt water and feel the roll of the ocean waves. Apparently there was a south swell this weekend, if I was in better shape maybe I would’ve paddled out.

Went by the Par 3 at Hickam with my dad and Uncle J, haven’t hit a golf ball in quite some time, but ended up doing ok. My problem is that I hit the ball too hard, and I tend to overshoot the green. On the way back, I got a short tour of the barracks and hangers where some of the bullet holes from the strafing Japanese planes during the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

Afterward we went to Kenny’s in Kam shopping center, funny since I haven’t been there since high school after one of the wrestling meets. There is something to be said about being able to order fried rice with your eggs and corned beef hash, not to mention the side order of portuguese sausage and passion-orange-guava juice. Only in Hawaii.

Another trip home, another year gone by. I don’t think two years of living in DC has changed me all that much.
